Social Security payments are disbursed monthly to millions of Americans across the country. The exact timing of these payments depends on the type of benefit you receive and your date of birth.
Retirement Benefits
If you’re receiving Social Security retirement benefits, your payment will be made on one of the following dates in September:
- September 11: If you were born between the 1st and 10th of any month.
- September 18: If you were born between the 11th and 20th of any month.
- September 25: If you were born between the 21st and 31st of any month.
Disability Benefits
For those receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), payments are generally made on the first of the month. However, if the first falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment will be made on the preceding business day.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
SSI payments are typically made at the beginning of each month. However, due to September 1st being a Sunday, SSI payments will be made on August 31st instead.
Important Note
If your payment doesn’t arrive on the expected date, wait a few business days before contacting the Social Security Administration. This will give them time to process any potential delays.
Looking Ahead: Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA)
Seniors can expect a potential increase in their Social Security payments due to the upcoming Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA). This adjustment is designed to help maintain the purchasing power of Social Security benefits by accounting for inflation.
