Tulsa’s Route 66 Capital Cruise drew thousands of vehicles Saturday as the city set a new Guinness World Record for the world’s largest car cruise, according to Guinness World Records officials.
The parade stretched more than five miles along historic Route 66 through Tulsa, with classic cars, trucks and other vintage vehicles traveling from Yale Avenue to downtown as thousands of spectators lined the route.
Guinness officials announced the final count following the parade after verifying participating vehicles and reviewing event requirements.
The previous Guinness World Record for the world’s largest car cruise was set in Puerto Rico with 2,491 vehicles.
Thousands Participate in Route 66 Celebration
The Capital Cruise served as the centerpiece of Tulsa’s kickoff celebration for the Route 66 Centennial.
Organizers said more than 4,500 vehicles had registered ahead of the event, which was designed to showcase Tulsa’s connection to the historic highway while attracting visitors from across the country.
The parade followed three days of Route 66-themed events, including the Capital Cruise Expo and Capital Cruise Tailgate at Expo Square.
Event Years in the Making
Organizers said planning for the Capital Cruise began more than two years ago.
The event featured designated viewing areas, entertainment zones, food vendors and live music along the parade route.
Visit Tulsa officials said the event was intended to showcase Tulsa’s role as the Capital of Route 66 while celebrating the highway’s centennial year.
