Australian actor and television host Rebecca Gibney has shared a heartbreaking family update.
The 61-year-old Millionaire Hot Seat host has been quiet on social media for the last two months but revealed her mother, Shirley, was struggling with health concerns.
“Mama Shirl is in hospital and has been dealing with a few issues but is doing well,” Rebecca wrote on Instagram.
“Anyone that follows me knows and loves Mum, so thought I should share that - please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she climbs yet another mountain.”

Rebecca is incredibly close with her mother, 91, who taught her to “always be kind, to focus on others, to be of service and to be grateful for what I have.”
Her mum’s health battle continues to weigh on her mind, and she has been spending less time on social media and more time in the garden.
“The world is a bit nutso and it feels like we’re in a version of The Truman Show sometimes,” Rebecca continued.
“But there are still good good people out there, nature is awesome and if you focus on doing a wee bit of good every day - you’ll feel better.
“Even if it’s pulling some weeds away from a tiny native tree.”

“Mama Shirl is in hospital and has been dealing with a few issues but is doing well,” Rebecca wrote on Instagram.
In the Instagram post, Rebecca also revealed her dog Lolly has had “a few health issues” but is on the way to recovery.
In her spare time, she has been busy making plum gin and seeing her big brother, Patrick.
Why did Rebecca Gibney stop posting on social media?
The past couple years have been a struggle for the Packed To The Rafters star, including being diagnosed with ADHD in 2025 after appearing on Dancing With The Stars.
“I have stopped fully living in the present and I need to reconnect with my hubby, my dogs and myself,” she revealed on Instagram in April.
This led to a social media hiatus.
“Alas there has also been a little backlash so I just wanted to say to the people that responded with ‘get over it’, ‘it’s not cancer’, stop jumping on the bandwagon’ and ‘nobody cares’ – just a wee word of advice. If you don’t know the full story of someone’s life - please don’t make assumptions or fire off petty comments,” she wrote on Instagram at the time.
