10-year-old killed, 9 injured in crash near Bronte

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A tragic accident occurred 30 miles south of Sweetwater, resulting in the death of a 10-year-old and injuries to nine others.

Fatal Crash Near Bronte Shuts Down Highway 277 Traffic

On the morning of June 6, around 7:13 a.m., a Honda Pilot towing a trailer was heading north on State Highway 153, while a Toyota truck was traveling south. The Honda veered off the road into a ditch, and as the driver tried to regain control, the vehicle skidded sideways into the southbound lane.

A Toyota truck coming over a hill collided with the Honda, causing a 10-year-old passenger in the Honda to be ejected. The child was pronounced dead at the scene. The Honda’s driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Two other children in the Honda were transported to a children’s hospital, but their conditions are currently unknown. Another passenger in the Honda suffered serious injuries but was in stable condition.

The Toyota’s driver and an adult passenger also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized. Three children in the Toyota were taken to a children’s hospital with serious injuries but were reported to be in stable condition.

The Honda’s driver and one adult passenger were wearing seatbelts, but none of the children in the Honda were restrained. All occupants of the Toyota were wearing seatbelts. Road conditions were clear and dry at the time of the crash.
